Jamaica has many forgotten animals. Abused, abandoned, injured, and often left to die alone in the hot sun. What for many is an island paradise is, for these animals, an island hell.
The Animal House Jamaica was formed to give these animals a second chance. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home as many of these homeless souls as possible, and to offer the few that prove to be un-adoptable a safe and secure sanctuary for life.
At any given time The Animal House Jamaica is home to approximately 150 animals. We believe that spay/neuter is the only effective and moral way to curb over-population.
Founded in the 1980′s because of serious concerns about the plight of animals on the northcoast of Jamaica, THE ANIMAL HOUSE JAMAICA has been helping stray, injured, and abandoned domestic animals, as well as feral cats for more than thirty years. We provide food, shelter, and medical care (including spay and neuter). We also help owners in need whenever possible..
The Animal House Jamaica is a non-profit, non-government organization that now operates a sanctuary in Lydford, St. Ann (just outside of Ocho Rios). Visitors are always welcome. The Animal House Jamaica needs your help to improve the conditions for Jamaica’s many animals in need. We pioneered the concept of “no-kill” on the island and operate the only animal shelter on the northcoast, and are one of only three in Jamaica.
The Animal House Jamaica is not only a registered charity in Jamaica it is also a 501©(3) in the United States, incorporated in Florida.
We have been very successful in arranging adoptions with wonderful families in the United States, Canada and Europe. As you might expect it is a source of great joy to see street dogs that once endured stoning, kicking and beating (not to mention having to cope with a constant threat of being poisoned), living life as a pampered pet thousands of miles away from its birth.
